The Release Fid is an indispensable tool for fast, safe release of lines under heavy load. Many are engineered with taper, or have knurled handle for easier manipulation, or hole in body to attach lanyard. Insert fid into shackle and use as handle or attach lanyard for quick release. Also consider using the Plug Fid that allows for remote release of trigger shackles - ideal for avoiding the need to crawl out into risky locations or for single-handed or night sailing.
